Chapter 2351 Newsletter

January, 2010

The New Year is upon us and many developments in our Federal government have raised red flags to NARFE members.  Already at the National level, NARFE has been successful in swaying Congress to consider policies and bills that would be kinder to Federal employees and retirees than had been originally proposed.  All of us must remain aware of what is going on and contact our representatives about our wishes.  A few contacts won't make a difference.  We should flood our reps offices with our contacts!  Read your NARFE magazine, and check out www.narfe.org, and www.narfeok.org frequently for all the latest information of interest.  Sign up with GEMS on the National website and NARFEnet on the State website to be alerted of new breaking news by e-mail.

As you are probably aware, our referendum failed to pass with the necessary 2/3 majority needed.  It failed by only a few votes, similar to the results at the last two or three National Conventions.  It will undoubtedly come up at the convention again this year in Grand Rapids.  Perhaps a version can be proposed that will be more in line with what our members want.  Most feel a single unified NARFE dues is a good idea, but how to implement it is the sticking point.

I wish all the best to you during this New Year.  Please contact us if you need us.  Remember, the State Federation convention is coming up April 15-17 in Tulsa.  We would love to have our full quota of delegates from this chapter present.  Please let us know if you can attend as a delegate.

Nancy Stanphill, Sec/Treas
